Suzanne Spaulding is senior adviser for homeland security and director of the Defending Democratic Institutions project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Previously she served as a member of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission and as under secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where she led the National Protection and Programs Directorate, now called the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker serves on the Board of Advisors of the Reiss Center on Law and Security at NYU School of Law. Ms. Rindskopf Parker has been the Executive Director of The State Bar of California since September 2015. Dean Emerita at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, she served as dean from 2002-2012 and was instrumental in 2003 in creating the now highly regarded Journal of National Security Law and Policy.


Ted McConnell serves as Senior Policy Advisor to CivXNow, a coalition of over 120 national organizations committed to improving the quality and quantity of civic learning in our nation’s schools. Ted also serves as the custodian of the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools. A national leader for decades, Ted directed the Campaign to Promote Civic Education, an initiative of the Center for Civic Education, and co-coordinated the Congressional Conferences on Civic Education. He serves on the boards of directors of Citizenship Counts, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, Rock the Vote, iCivics, Special Olympics, the Annenberg Presidential Learning Center at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Project Vote Smart, and the Student Press Law Center, among other organizations.

In 2018 he was awarded the Isidore Starr Award for Excellence in Civic and law-related Education from the American Bar Association.

This workshop was fabulous. I really needed ways to incorporate social studies into what I already do (English/Language Arts;) I feel I accomplished this here. The presenters were awesome.
