Including NH Civics in Your Estate Plan

One way to give to NH Civics is by a charitable bequest from a will or trust. Here are the most common ways of doing that, along with suggested language:

Specific Bequest

A specific bequest names a particular dollar amount to be left to NH Civics.

“I give and bequeath to NH CIVICS, a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation, Tax ID number 81-3116744, with offices at 2 White Street, Concord, NH 03301, the sum of $ ___________ to be used for the general purposes of the organization (or to be used for a specific purpose).”

Percentage Bequest

A percentage bequest names a percentage of your estate to be left to NH Civics.

“I give and bequeath to NH CIVICS, a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation, Tax ID number 81-3116744, with offices at 2 White Street, Concord, NH 03301, ______% of my estate, to be used for the general purposes of the organization (or to be used for a specific purpose).”

Residuary Bequest

A residuary bequest first leaves specific amounts to family members, friends, or other charities, and then designates that all or part of what remains should go to NH Civics.

“I give and bequeath to NH CIVICS, a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation, Tax ID number 81-3116744, with offices at 2 White Street, Concord, NH 03301, all (or stated percentage of) the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used for the general purpose of the organization (or to be used for a specific purpose).”

Contingent Bequest

A contingent bequest names NH Civics to receive part or all of your estate in the event your designated beneficiary or beneficiaries predecease you.

“If any beneficiary named in this will is not living at my decease, then I give and bequeath to NH CIVICS, a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation, Tax ID number 81-3116744, with offices at 2 White Street, Concord, NH 03301, any bequest which other beneficiary would have received if he or she had survived me.”

Other Ways of Remembering NH Civics

You can name NH Civics as the beneficiary of your insurance policy.

You can name NH Civics as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plan.
If you are age 70 ½ or older, and you do not need the “required minimum distribution” from your IRA account, you can make a direct gift from that account to NH Civics, and you will not need to declare that distribution as taxable income.
